After picking up only one point from our last three league games and losing 2-1 to blue eagles last monday after extra time in the quarter final of the cup, the boys were keen to get back on track against Adelaide City.

 

For this game we welcomed back Aaron Turner who had missed the last five weeks while being involved on fox 8 football superstar. Also coming into the starting eleven wrere 1st team squad members Jarod Daly, Brad Burgess and Mark Perrone.

 

With ground conditions difficult due to the rain, both teams struggled early on to keep possession. Opportunities were limited, but midway through the first half a free kick by Aaron Turner from a wide right position eventually fell to Craig Smith who scored from close range to put us 1-0 up.

 

Adelaide City started to lift their workrate after this but defensively Cumberland kept their shape and discipline, not allowing City to create any chances of their own.

 

Great persistence from Jarod Daly found himself winning the ball on the left hand side of City's goal area and from a tight angle placed the ball inside the far post, giving us a 2-0 lead at half time.

 

The second half saw City change their formation, putting extra players up front to try and get back into the game. Although they created a few chances, most were from long range, not causing us any problems.

 

The longer the half went, City looked to run out of ideas with Cumberland taking control of the game and creating numerous chances to finish the game off.

 

With about 10 minutes to go Brad Burgess collected the ball deep in City's half and beat the goalkeeper with a great strike from just outside the box to make the final score 3-0.

 

A good performance and nice to see the lads get back to winning ways.
