Seniors match report Round 11 - June 22, 2010
With an unusually low placed Adelaide City, currently 4th bottom , Cumberland were looking to try to break their losing streak at Oakden.
The game was a Sunday fixture for reasons of Adelaide city trialling a change to their normal Monday night fixtures.
Never any easy place for points at any time our boys were confident of giving City a hard time. We soaked up quite a bit of pressure in the first half and some top shelf Goalkeeping by young Cody Larkin and good defending by Young, Lippett and Smith saw us holding a point at half time.
The Foxes reshaped for the second half and saw Brenton Macdonald coming on to give our attacking play some more strength.
Mark Pirrone and second placed 'superstar', Aaron Turner also getting a second half entrance. More possession by our boys kept City at bay and Cumberland looked like they could possibly snatch a winner.
Pushing forward, though, left some openings for City and they capitalised down our right flank, chipping the ball over a charging Larkin to take a one nil lead.
Despite desperate surges to find an equaliser in the last twenty minutes our lads went home with nothing for their efforts. Spirited and competitive, we just seem to lack the edge to take any points.
Still plenty of Football to be played we need to start picking up some points to leap-frog Cobras and Raiders. Our next game against Campbelltown at home is a must for some points.
