Round 12 Senior Match Report - July 2, 2010

Following a very competitive game at Newton Sports Complex earlier in the year the Foxes were confident they could take some home points for the return leg at Bailey Reserve.

Neil and the boys have been training well and intensity is excellent, especially considering our position in the league.

Good structure and shape gave the Foxes the greater share of possession for the first half. Several shots and attempts at the Campbelltown goal gave our spectators high hopes of an early goal. Neither side, though, was able to break through and the half time break saw the teams scoreless.

The second half began with a slow starting Cumberland and some poor defending allowed Campbelltown to take the lead.

Several minutes later striker Brenton Macdonald shuffled in front of his defender while making a penetrating run towards the right by-line. The defender kicked Brenton from behind and the referee awarded us the penalty. Brenton took the spot kick and was fortunate enough to get a second bite after the keeper made a save of the first attempt. The follow up saw us level at one all and confidence lifted throughout the team.

Unfortunately, the visitors were gifted a second goal when our goalkeeper failed to save a routine shot. Our boys seemed to lose their belief and our shape and organisation went astray.

Yannick Skull and others had some goal mouth chances but the boys failed to find an equaliser. In going forward, some opportunities surfaced for a buoyant Campbelltown and an experienced shove from Jason Trimboli saw him collect the third goal from a header at the far post.

Another big effort and workmanlike game from our boys failed to convert endeavour into desperately needed points.

Time is running out for the Foxes and a tough away game against Strikers is a must win if we are to have any chance of survival in the Super League.
