Round 13 Match Report - July 20, 2010
Western Strikers 0 CUFC 0
The Foxes met Strikers at Carnegie Reserve, the return leg of a fixture at Bailey our boys rued missing out on points.
Never an easy place to play, often windy and a bumpy pitch our boys opened the game with plenty of possession. Several chances went our way but, unfortunately, finishing has become a problem for us.
A goal may have sparked a better spectacle but after the half time score of nil,nil the rest of the game became a bit of a frustrating time.
Cumberland surged forward many times without any reward for the huge efforts being put in by most players. Even a couple of late substitutions couldn’t find a way through and both teams had to settle for a scoreless draw.
Good keeping by young Nick Monroe was enough to thwart off any of the few late chances Strikers could muster. A great defensive display with some attacking runs by the pacy Robbie Lippett was, also a worthy mention.
On the day it was interesting to see the hard working Aggie Giannatto who is President of the Club manning the entrance gate, serving the bar and doing kitchen cleanup. It just goes to show that as big as we like to think our Clubs are, the position of ‘President’ is very much about rolling the sleeves up and getting the hands dirty!
