Round 14 Match Report - July 20, 2010
Metrostars 1 (1) CUFC 0
An even more frustrating game than against Strikers our boys replicated their effort and second half dominance not to even get a point from the game.
An undermanned, but very fortunate Metrostars had one meaningful attack in the first half and scored from it. A lapse in defensive concentration our only slip up in the half and our boys left to chase the game in the second half.
A fine effort by the team saw us with a number of glorious opportunities for an equalizer. Alas, we could not find the back of the net.
Some great play by Neil Young late in the game gave Brenton Macdonald a superb through ball that missed its target by a whisker. Open goal opportunities squandered, the home team knew they were fortunate to still be in front.
A very disappointing inability to find the net again meant no points for the better team on the day.
Football can be cruel and our early season ability to score goals seems to have eluded us! Credible performances by Varma, Young, Lippett and Briscoe keeping Metros away from grabbing a second on the break and some encouraging goalkeeping by Nick Monroe were highlights of the day.
